ACTIF is the coalition of four women who recognize the importance of targeted
interventions for animal conservation throughout the world.
Julia Levitan
President
Julia has always had a passion for wildlife conservation but it was during her first trip to Africa in 2007 when she saw firsthand how far small, and direct, actions can go that she felt she could truly make a difference. In addition to ACTIF, Julia works in Napa, California as a Director and EVP for a local winery. She has an MBA in Marketing and International Business from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University.
Charlotte Moueix
Project Advisor
A practicing specialized wildlife veterinarian in Africa for over 15 years, Charlotte has seen firsthand the dangers faced by African Wildlife, and has dreamed of getting involved with larger scale conservation projects. After repeatedly witnessing on the ground the failure of many conservation projects due to funding limitations, Charlotte was inspired to collaborate on ACTIF; bringing her knowledge, local contacts, and experience to help make ACTIF “an African Mobile Intervention Unit to respond with funding and passion to animals in need”.
Charlotte studied Veterinary Sciences at the National Veterinary School of Maisons-Alfort, Paris, France then completed an MSc on wildlife at the Veterinary University of Pretoria in South Africa. Having gained personal, practical experience with mammals such as elephant, rhino, buffalo and endangered antelope species by working with some of the country’s leading vets, she now runs her own wildlife veterinary practice, specializing in capture and care of all game species including large carnivores.
Amy Smith
Board Member
Amy is a CPA and a Partner at Moss Adams. She received a BS in accounting and an MS in taxation at Golden Gate University and now provides income and estate tax compliance and planning services in Northern California. She is currently a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Land Trust of Napa County, and is a former Board Member of Napa Valley Support Services. Amy is involved in local animal conservation projects and saw in ACTIF the way to help on a larger scale.
Francine-Ann du Plessis
Board Member
Living in South Africa and being exposed daily to wildlife exploitation and environment destruction, Fran joined the Board of ACTIF in the hopes of bringing about real and meaningful change. She has been a lawyer and tax accountant for 25 years in South Africa and a frequent lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch for post graduate degrees in Taxation and Company Law. Fran currently runs her own business as a tax consultant.
